Bridgend County Borough Council’s Employability Bridgend team in partnership with Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO) are issuing a final call for applications for the ‘Warm Hubs Grant Scheme’ funded by Welsh Government.

For 2025-26, the council is set to receive a budget settlement increase of 4 per cent. Unfortunately, this will not be enough to deal with increased costs and higher demand for services.

Bridgend County Borough Council has published its Director of Social Services Annual Report, following a presentation of the highlights to Council on plans for improving the service, and reflecting on the significant progress made over the last financial year, but also highlighting the challenges of meeting levels of need in a difficult financial context for local government.

Earlier this year, Pencoed Comprehensive School received an overhaul of the facilities offered to learners with additional learning needs (ALN), as well as the construction of Pencoed Netball Centre on site, which includes two new netball courts for school and community use.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet has approved the 2023 – 2024 Corporate Safeguarding report, outlining details of the widespread safeguarding provision offered by Social Services, as well as how vulnerable adults and children continue to be supported across all directorates, offering a ‘one council’ approach to safeguarding.

A groundbreaking project aimed at addressing antisocial behaviour across the county borough was spotlighted at Wales Safer Communities Awards 2024 on 28 November. A collaboration between Bridgend County Borough Council Youth Support and South Wales Police (SWP), supported by Ospreys in the Community, the ‘Tackle after Dark’ scheme claimed the ‘Partnerships’ category award at the ceremony.

Earlier this year, pupils from Newton Primary School, Porthcawl, penned their own original song and headed to London to represent Wales and perform in the finals of ‘The School Song Competition 2024’, having been shortlisted from over one thousand entries.
