Council investment ensures play areas are inclusive for local children

Four children’s play areas in the county borough have benefitted from either new play equipment or repairs to existing facilities as part of a £500k investment.

All the refurbishments include new, inclusive equipment that allows all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to be active.

The play areas which have benefitted from the latest refurbishments include:

  • Adare Street, Ogmore Vale
  • Heol y Goedwig, Porthcawl
  • New Street Play Area, Oak Street, Aberkenfig
  • Tondu Post Office Play Area, Maesteg Road, Tondu

Inclusive roundabouts have been installed at both the New Street and Tondu Post Office play areas, whilst an inclusive mountain multi-play unit has been fitted at Heol y Goedwig, Porthcawl. All the facilities are suitable for wheelchair access.

We believe that every child should have equal access to the best play opportunities. When new activities are installed in local playgrounds, the council is committed to providing inclusive equipment.

It’s great to see new playground equipment introduced that’s fun for all children, not just the able bodied.

Not only do these playgrounds offer plenty of fun ways to play, but they also provide a real challenge for both disabled and able-bodied children. The clever design means that children of differing abilities can develop, explore, and find the limits of their capability in an exciting and fun way.
