Supported bus consultation 2019 to 2020
We support some regional and local bus services by subsidising routes that are not commercially viable, along with the Welsh Government. These services operate on routes so residents who live along them can access employment, education, health care and social activities.
In 2018/19 a public consultation took place where residents were asked their views about subsidised buses and the removal of some services. The outcome was that we would continue to fully subsidise three popular local bus routes for a further 12 months. However funding for two fully subsidised routes, and four partly funded routes, was withdrawn.
This consultation follows a cabinet decision on the report submitted on 18 September 2018. This report proposed removing the remainder of bus subsidy for the financial year 2019/20. This is part of the proposed savings within the Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) for 2019-20 to 2022-23.
As a result of the cabinet decision, the bus services shown in the table below could be affected by this proposal:
