Town centre footfall data

The term ‘footfall’ relates to the number of pedestrians in a particular place. We use data collected under licence by Springboard to record the number of people at particular locations within both Bridgend and Porthcawl town centres.

MRI (formally Springboard) TST footfall counters use video based technology to identify moving objects by using a camera as an “eye” to look down into the street.

As people pass through a virtual zone they are logged as a digit on an electronic file which represents footfall. The counter logs footfall continuously and is compiled into a weekly report from which a summary of information is taken.

Footfall is the volume of activity and no individual person is identified and the visual data is not stored.
