Virtual Christmas Market
Bridgend Indoor Market has found a new, temporary virtual home this Christmas.
Since it’s opening in May 1972, the historic 51-year-old market has played a strong role in the local community, hosting a variety of independent and family traders, some who have been associated with the market from the very beginning.
Due to the interests of public safety, the market was recently forced to close after an inspection by a Welsh Government approved specialist confirmed that there was a potential issue with Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in parts of the market hall roof.
We have been working with the market traders, Rhiw Shopping Centre, the Shared Regulatory Service’s food safety, trading standards and environmental health teams, Business Wales, the Department of Works and Pensions and Citizen’s Advice to support traders, and helping them with alternate accommodation such as:
- pop-up markets in the Rhiw Shopping Centre
- relocation of stalls to units in the Rhiw Shopping Centre and other town centre premises
We are now pleased to work with traders and offer customers the chance to find out more about their products, and also showcase stock online with our virtual market.
