Taxi licence

Apply to drive a taxi, register a vehicle or renew a licence.

We recommend making renewal applications at least six to eight weeks before the expiry date.

Vehicle Testing

From 1 May 2026 proprietors are able to obtain an MOT test Certificate and Declaration of Fitness Certificate (the additional taxi/PH test) from any DVSA approved MOT Testing garage located within the Bridgend County Borough administrative area.

The Ty Thomas testing facility will still offer these services however instead of having a test booked through licensing, if proprietors wish to use this facility they would need to contact Ty Thomas directly.

A test can be booked with Ty Thomas by phoning 01656 642816 or by sending an email to fleetreception@bridgend.gov.uk.

If proprietors wish to go elsewhere for the testing of a vehicle, it must be done by a DVSA approved MOT testing station within Bridgend; a list of approved stations are published on the.Gov.uk website.

Proprietors will be required to upload a copy of their MOT certificate and Declaration of Fitness Certificate when applying for their licence through the online portal. Proprietors will not be able to apply for a licence without these documents.

A Meter Calibration Certificate will also be required for Hackney Carriage vehicles; proprietors will not be able to apply for a licence without this.
