Don’t miss out on your child’s school and nursery places

Parents and carers are being reminded to ensure they submit applications in time to gain places for their children at their chosen school.

On Tuesday 7 February, the School Admissions Policy 2024-2025 was approved by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet as part of an annual process. It covers all aspects of school admissions.

It also includes the important dates for admission rounds to school nurseries, infant, junior, primary, and secondary schools, and closing dates to submit appeals.

For this coming school year beginning in September 2023, parents and carers have until 24 March 2023 to apply for Nursery places starting full-time in the autumn. Or, if applying for a part-time place starting in January 2024 or April 2024, they have until 31 August 2023.

For a Reception place in September, the deadline date for us to receive completed application forms is Friday 10 February 2023.

You will be notified of the outcome of Full-time Nursery applications on 15 May 2023 and part-time Nursery applications, by 31 October 2023.  You will be notified of the outcome of your child’s Reception application on Monday 17 April 2023.

In addition to completing traditional paper forms, residents can also apply online through the council’s My Account service.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and carers that it is necessary to apply for places at schools - the transition is not automatic from one school to another – and it’s vital to get applications in by the deadline.

In addition, if parents are thinking of moving house, they need to contact our education services as soon as possible, and get advice on changing schools if that’s going to be part of the move.
