Armed Forces Community Covenant

Covenant information

The Armed Forces Community Covenant is a national scheme to improve understanding of issues in local forces communities. Find more information about the community covenant in Wales, here.

Representatives of the armed forces community, armed forces charities, and public, private and community sector organisations signed our community covenant on 22 November 2013.

The community covenant’s purpose is to support the area’s service community and promote understanding of issues affecting the forces community locally. The covenant has five objectives:

  1. Encourage local people to support the armed forces community in their areas.
  2. Nurture public understanding and awareness of issues affecting the armed forces community.
  3. Recognise and remember the armed forces community’s sacrifices.
  4. Encourage activities which integrate the armed forces community into local life.
  5. Encourage the armed forces community to support the public, whether through events and joint projects or other activities.

Armed forces champion

Cllr Richard Young is our armed forces champion. The champion raises the armed forces community’s profile and works for greater understanding and awareness of its issues. He advocates for it, and ensures its interests are properly considered and prioritised in our policies and strategies.

The community covenant grant

The Covenant Fund provides financial support to those leaving the armed forces. Also it integrates military and civilian communities through local projects and activities. Find more information about the fund and how to apply here.

Before submitting, applicants should read the guidance notes and give enough time for the Local Covenant Partnership to consider their application.
