Street lighting
At Bridgend County Borough Council, we take our commitment to sustainability and responsible energy use extremely seriously, not only because we are conscious of how we spend the finances available to us but also the impact it has on the climate and our environment.
The council has a streetlight dimming programme where streetlights are dimmed to 70% of their full output between midnight and 6am. This measure helps to reduce energy consumption during low-traffic hours while maintaining sufficient lighting for safety and visibility.
Over the past decade, we have undertaken an upgrade of our street lighting infrastructure, replacing traditional lighting with modern LED units. These new LED lights are equipped with directional lenses that focus light where it is needed, reducing upward light spill and minimising light pollution.
This programme supports our wider environmental goals by improving energy efficiency, reducing our carbon footprint, and contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious public lighting system.
We remain committed to balancing safety, sustainability, and the quality of our public spaces through intelligent lighting solutions.
