Modern Welsh Quilts

Monday 20 October - Saturday 02 November 2025

Modern Welsh Quilts is a business started by Zelda Lawrence-Curran, a fifth-generation quilter who learned the craft from her Welsh family while living in Kent.

Welsh quilting has a history of over 250 years and was particularly prominent in the Llynfi and Garw valleys during the 1800s and early 1900s. It’s a unique tradition that comes from this area, and something local people can be proud of.

Now that Zelda has returned to the valleys, she wants to inspire local people to start making quilts again. The pop-up shop is the first step in bringing that tradition back.

There will be one-day beginner-friendly classes where you can learn the basic quilting techniques and make your own piece of Llynfi-Garw heritage to take home. The projects will have a Christmas theme, so you can get an early start on your festive creations.
