Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Bro Ogwr receives sterling Estyn report

Tuesday 29 July 2025

Praised for championing the wellbeing of learners and their families, leadership and more, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Bro Ogwr has excelled in a recent Estyn inspection.

Inspectors commended the school’s commitment and focus on wellbeing, with an established Emotional and Family and Wellbeing team dedicated to supporting families through tailored provision, which includes signposting to specialist services.  In light of the current financial climate, grant funding received by the school is spent mindfully to ensure that off-site educational visits are accessible to all pupils.

The Estyn report highlighted how the school’s foundations are built upon creating a caring community which encourages, supports and safeguards the pupils and their families.  Parental cooperation, links with external agencies as well as the wider community, were also noted as strengths of the school.

Leadership within the school has been applauded in the report, with the headteacher described as a “firm and passionate leader” who clearly conveys the high standards that she sets for herself, members of staff, and pupils.

“We are very proud of our published Estyn report, highlighting the school as a ‘welcoming, fun and caring community’. It was noted that staff work ‘conscientiously’, using a range of teaching methods that promote ‘an ethos based on providing access for all to stimulating and interesting learning experiences that encourage pupils to succeed to the best of their ability’. “Particular mention was given in our report to the importance we place on offering strong support to families who experience the effects of poverty or those from low-income households. “We were thrilled that Estyn chose to spotlight this provision which ‘ensures that everyone has access to the whole range of experiences without exception and contributes significantly to the sense that the school is one big, close-knit family’. “The governors and I wholeheartedly thank the staff, pupils and the whole community of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Bro Ogwr for their dedication and commitment to making Bro Ogwr a happy, inclusive and thriving school”.
"Congratulations! It’s very clear that the hard work, dedication and commitment of the staff are reflected in such a wonderful Estyn report. "The school has successfully created a caring, family-orientated culture in which pupils and their families are valued and supported. "This encouraging, safe environment can only help the learners to embrace opportunities and fulfil their potential. Well done all!"
