Temporary closure announced for Blackmill river bridge

Friday 29 August 2025

Bridgend County Borough Council has confirmed that the bridge at Blackmill which carries the A4061 over the river Ogmore will need to fully close in both directions between 8am and 5pm on Sunday 31 August 2025.

The closure is necessary to enable soil samples to be extracted as part of planned repairs to the ageing structure, and also to confirm the location of pipes and cables belonging to utility companies.

The work on the bridge was prioritised after waterproofing defects led to the discovery of further structural problems requiring urgent attention.

“The Blackmill river bridge forms an essential part of the main route in and out of the Ogmore Valley for drivers using the A4061, and it is essential for this work to be carried out quickly and safely before a replacement bridge deck can be installed. “The council would like to apologise for any unavoidable inconvenience that this essential work will cause. A diversion will be in place, and every effort will be made to complete the work as quickly and as efficiently as possible. “The work will ultimately be worth the effort as it will extend the lifespan of the bridge and will ensure that generations of Ogmore Valley residents can continue to use it in the knowledge that it is a safe, secure structure.”
