‘Summer of Fun’ offers free activities for children across the county borough
Thursday 16 July 2026
Children across Bridgend County Borough can look forward to an action-packed summer as the popular Active 4 Life programme returns with a wide range of free sports, games, arts and creative activities.
In partnership between Bridgend County Borough Council, Halo Leisure, local Town and Community Councils, Sport Wales and Play Wales, the initiative is aimed at children aged eight to 11 years and will run across the school summer holidays.
Sessions will take place at Bridgend Life Centre, Maesteg Sports Centre, Garw Valley Life Centre, Betws Life Centre, Ogmore Valley Life Centre, Pencoed Comprehensive School, Porthcawl Comprehensive School and Brackla Sports Centre/Archbishop McGrath School.
Parents and carers can book a place in advance by emailing Active4liferegistration@bridgend.gov.uk.
Families can also enjoy an extensive programme of free and low-cost activities delivered by Awen Wales, Bryngarw Park and Noddfa Youth & Community Project and Mentor Bro Ogwr, who will be providing additional free activities for children throughout the summer.
Maesteg Town Hall and libraries in Aberkenfig, Bettws, Bridgend, Pencoed, Porthcawl, Pyle and Sarn will host a variety of workshops and events throughout the summer holidays, while a packed programme of outdoor events will take place at Bryngarw Park.
The summer programme will conclude with the Bridgend Inclusive Network Group (BING) Family Fun Day at Brackla Sports Centre on 27 August. The event will include animal encounters, boccia, wheelchair rugby, arts and crafts, refreshments and a range of inclusive activities designed for the whole family to enjoy.
"Summer should be a time for children to have fun, make memories and enjoy new experiences, and we're delighted to be supporting another fantastic programme of activities right across Bridgend County Borough. Thanks to the fantastic partnership working between the council and our local organisations, a wealth of free opportunities will be available for children and families to enjoy, whether that's trying a new sport, exploring the outdoors, getting creative, learning new skills or simply spending quality time together. We know that the school holidays can be an expensive time for families, so we're proud to be supporting so many free activities that are accessible, inclusive and available within communities across the county borough. I would encourage families to take a look at what's on offer, book early where required and make this a summer to remember."
