Wednesday 02 July 2025

The Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K returns this weekend (Sunday 6 July) and residents are reminded that there will be some safety measures in place including temporary road closures and bus diversions.

Entries for the 10K are sold out and local residents are encouraged to cheer on all those taking part, with 6,200 participants arriving from all over the United Kingdom.

Taking in a whole host of landmarks and stunning views, the runners will set off from the Eastern Promenade before passing locations such as Rest Bay, Trecco Bay, Coney Bay, the town centre, Grand Pavilion and the iconic Porthcawl Lighthouse. The finishing point will be at the end of the Esplanade, close to Cosy Corner.

The organisers have designed the route to minimise disruption for residents and businesses and most roads will only be closed for a short time but please note that the Eastern Promenade will be closed from 5am on Saturday 5 July before reopening at 4pm on Sunday 6 July. A full road closure map is available at www.porthcawl10k.co.uk/road-closures

There will also be diversions to routes serviced by the X2, 63 and Stagecoach 172 buses, please check www.firstbus.co.uk/south-west-wales and www.stagecoachbus.com before travelling.

Anyone attending the event is advised to pre-book parking in advance by visiting www.porthcawl10k.co.uk/travel-parking. Please note that you cannot drive into the car park to drop someone off without a booking.

Alongside the main event there will also be something for the whole family to get involved in including an adorable Toddler Dash, Future Challengers race for competitive young athletes as well as a Family Fun Run.

“The Porthcawl 10K continues to grow year on year and it’s fantastic to see how wide-ranging this event is with opportunities for people of all ages to get involved. “This event not only proves popular with residents but showcases Porthcawl as a high-quality tourism destination. I’d encourage anyone attending as well as all residents to make sure they are aware of the road closures and parking arrangements ahead of this weekend.”
“We’re really looking forward to returning to Porthcawl for the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K and are excited this will be our biggest event yet with all general entries now gone and 6,200 runners registered to take part. “As always expect a great atmosphere around the course and at the finish line and it will be a great day out for the whole family with lots to do in the event village and surrounding area.”
