Second phase of Cornelly schools’ modernisation programme gets the green light

Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet has approved the second phase of a major school development programme in Cornelly, Bridgend.

The planned development includes the provision of a new-build English-medium school on the Marlas Estate, and a brand new, Welsh-medium school on the existing Ysgol Y Ferch o’r Sgêr site.

The new school on the Marlas Estate will accommodate current leaners at Afon y Felin and Corneli Primary Schools, and the Welsh-medium school will expand Ysgol Y Ferch o’r Sgêr.

Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Jon-Paul Blundell, has also been recently selected as the council representative for the Welsh Education Partnership Strategic Partnering Board (SPB).

This is an exciting proposition for education in the county borough. The new schools in Cornelly will offer an array of up-to-date resources to the learners and staff, promising to make the learning experience rich and varied!

Opening dates for the schools will be confirmed as the scheme progresses, and we will keep everyone informed as the plans continue to develop.

I am pleased to be selected as the representative for the Welsh Education SPB – a role that I intend to fulfil with enthusiasm and commitment!

Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Jon-Paul Blundell
