Schools celebrate success with awards for ‘Food and Fun’ programme

Schools in the county borough have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to the Food and Fun programme, winning a leading award at the tenth anniversary Gwobrau Bwyd a Hwyl / Food and Fun Awards, held at the Cornerstone in Cardiff.
Catering Service team members Sarah Lever and Caroline Clatworthy received the ‘Catering Award’ for their dedicated commitment to providing healthy meals. Sarah and Caroline, who work primarily at Oldcastle Primary School in Bridgend, were praised for their flexibility and enthusiasm which ensured that the Food and Fun programme could be delivered successfully at Abercerdin Primary School in Evanstown.
Staff and volunteers at Abercerdin Primary School were also recognised for their teamwork, kindness, and dedication, taking home the Runner-Up Award in the ‘Working Together’ category. Lauren Davies, Helen Adams, Kyrie Winter, Aimee Buller, Emma Streeter, Dawn Mainwaring, Josie Adams and Lisa Gilbert were commended for their efforts in going above and beyond to make the programme a success.
Elsewhere, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Calon y Cymoedd in Bettws, was rewarded for its outstanding volunteer contributions. Hari and Sion Coulthard who are pupils at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd received the ‘Volunteer Award’ in recognition of their positive influence and lasting impact on pupils taking part in their Food and Fun programme.
“Our catering staff continue to provide the best possible service for pupils across the county borough, and I’m so proud that their hard work and commitment has been recognised at these awards. “The provision of free healthy meals in the Food and Fun programme can make a big impact on children’s wellbeing, while supporting families within the community throughout the summer holidays.”

Developed in 2015, Food and Fun is a school-based summer enrichment programme that is fully funded by Welsh Government and administered by the Welsh Local Government Association.
Delivered by school staff and partners, the programme provides pupils with healthy meals, physical play and enrichment learning opportunities during the school holidays.
