Pride in Place funding to make positive impact across Bridgend County Borough
Wednesday 27 May 2026
Bridgend County Borough Council has announced the first successful recipients of the Pride in Place Impact Fund (PiPIF) small grants.
The PiPIF funding, issued by UK Government, aims to restore pride in local communities, support community cohesion, and stimulate economic activity.
Applicants for the funding submitted proposals to the council’s Reach team, and following a highly competitive application process that saw significant interest, a total of 12 community-led projects have been awarded funding. These grants will facilitate vital improvements to community facilities and public spaces across the county borough, with all projects scheduled for completion by February 2027.
The full list of successful applicants includes:
- Cornelly Development Trust
- Brackla Community Council
- Caerau Athletic Social Club/Caerau All Whites FC
- Billy’s Gym and Wellness Centre
- Ogmore Valleys Boxing Club
- Caerau Men’s Shed
- Talbot Community Centre
- Bryncethin Community Centre
- Kenfig Hill RFC
- Llangynwyd Lower Community Council
- Porthcawl YMCA
- Pencoed Town Council
One of the notable recipients was Caerau Men’s Shed, a charity who focus on reducing social isolation while in turn assisting the community. Established in 2017, participants of the initiative can get involved in activities such as woodworking and gardening to provide an opportunity for social interaction. They create hand-made products to sell at local markets, make items for community and school use, and get involved with community-based events.
They have applied for funding to expand the workshop space to include accessible workbenches suitable for wheelchair users, electrics and necessary safety features. This will increase the number of members that can participate at any one time and supports their mission of reducing social isolation.
“The high volume of applications highlights a clear local need for accessible community capital grants. We are proud to support a diverse range of organisations across the county borough, that are working to enhance our shared spaces, from sports clubs and community centres to development trusts and men’s sheds.”
Successful projects were assessed on their alignment with the PiPIF objectives and their ability to deliver tangible benefits, such as improved green spaces, upgraded sports and heritage facilities, and increased commercial or community space.
Each project was endorsed by local Bridgend County Borough Councillors and will contribute to the broader objectives of the Pride in Place Impact Fund, ensuring lasting improvements for residents across the region.
