Plans progress for Bettws’ Welsh-medium childcare hub
Monday 18 September 2023
Bridgend County Borough Council will shortly be going out to tender to source a provider to run the new Welsh-medium childcare facility, based in Bettws.
The new Welsh-medium hub, built on the former Boys and Girls Club site in Bettws, is part of a £2.8m investment into Welsh-medium childcare, which also involves establishing facilities at Blackmill, Bridgend and Porthcawl.
The provision will offer 16 Welsh-medium childcare places, plus six places for younger children aged up to two years. As the provision develops, out-of-school childcare may also become available, and the facility will operate for up to 51 weeks of the year.
The building features a new play and learning space, quiet rooms, storage facilities, a kitchen, an office and a car parking area, with room for seven vehicles. The area to the front and side of the building is landscaped to include soft-surface play facilities and a canopy which will provide children and staff with shelter and shade.
Currently, tender documents are being finalised and will be widely publicised this half term. The brand new, fit-for-purpose building will provide high quality Welsh-medium childcare to the local community of Bettws and across the county borough. To say that we are excited is an understatement!
