Pathways to Care programme offers opportunities to develop a career in social care

Following the success of previous ‘Pathways to Care’ courses, the council’s Adult Social Care and Employability Bridgend teams are offering another opportunity for people looking to enter the field of social care.
The free, two-week programme will take place from Monday 5 October to Friday 16 October 2026, 9.30am to 3pm and is open to Bridgend County Borough residents aged 18 or over.
Held at Bridgend Halo Life Centre, the programme will offer participants access to accredited training, a series of informative workshops and the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the expectations and role of a social care worker.
The programme will include a series of informative workshops, alongside opportunities to hear from people working in social care and those who receive support, helping participants to gain a better understanding of the role of a social care worker.
Aimed at people with little or no experience in social care, as well as those considering a change of career, participants will also receive support to prepare for interviews and explore employment opportunities within the sector.
Last year’s programme resulted in four participants securing roles with the council, alongside a number of other employment and volunteering outcomes.
“Pathways to Care is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is interested in working in social care to find out about the different roles available and develop the skills and confidence they need to take that next step. “You don’t need to have previous experience of working in care. What’s important is having a positive approach and a genuine interest in supporting others. “Working in social care can be incredibly rewarding, and I would encourage anyone considering a career in the sector to find out more and take advantage of this free programme.”
Claire Evans, who attended the first course, and who is working in one of the authority’s residential care homes, said: “I had previously worked in a large supermarket for twelve years before taking time out to care for my family. I knew that my former role had given me some very useful, transferrable skills.
“Although, I was a bit doubtful at first, I received some positive advice and encouragement to attend the course from Employability Bridgend, and I’m so glad now that I did sign up!
“I found the course really inspiring and as a result, I’ve made a life changing decision to work in the support care industry.”
Claire added that she is “really enjoying” her new role, learning about the various aspects of her job, working with the residents, and getting to know them.
