Nature boost for 10 local areas in Bridgend County Borough thanks to £250,000 grant

Bridgend County Borough Council has been awarded a grant worth £250,000 from the Local Places for Nature project, which is jointly funded by Welsh Government and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The project aims to create ‘nature on your doorstep’ by focusing on everyday places such as locations where people live, work or visit.

The improvements will include tree planting, hedge planting, orchard creation, wildflower bulb planting and ‘no mow’ areas.

It is also hoped that the works will have a positive influence for a range of species such as pollinators, bats and small mammals, as well as improving the areas for local communities.

The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales are the council’s delivery partner for the initiative and they are currently holding a consultation on the plans.

Residents are invited to give their feedback at the following ten locations which have been selected for the project:

• 16:00 – 17:30 - Newbridge Fields, Bridgend Main location: Newbridge Fields, CF31 4BP

It’s really pleasing that so many local communities are involved in such an important project which will bring many benefits to both the environment and local communities as a whole.

It is great to be working with partners such as The Wildlife Trust for South and West Wales on this project and I would like to encourage residents to share their views on these exciting plans at the upcoming consultations.
