Leader announces changes to Cabinet of Bridgend County Borough Council
Wednesday 17 December 2025
Councillor John Spanswick, Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, has confirmed that changes have been made to the local authority’s Cabinet structure.
Announcing the amendments at a meeting of Cabinet held on Tuesday 16 December, he confirmed that Councillor Paul Davies has stepped down from the role of Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment.
In future, the portfolio will be jointly shared between Councillor Eugene Caparros and Councillor Gary Haines. The Leader also confirmed that Councillor Melanie Evans will be taking on the role of Cabinet Member for Resources, a post that she previously shared with Councillor Caparros.
Councillor Paul Davies, who will continue to represent the Caerau ward, has been a Bridgend County Borough councillor since 2017. He joined the Cabinet in 2024 and has held a number of roles, including appointments to the Equalities and Employment Relations committee as well as with outside bodies ranging from Bridgend and Maesteg Citizens Advice Bureau to the Coychurch Crematorium Joint Committee.
“Acting as the Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment has been an honour and a privilege, and I have fully enjoyed the role. However, the time has come to step down so that I can attend to some personal matters, and to let one of my colleagues take on the responsibility. “I would like to thank the Leader and Cabinet for the support that I have received while undertaking the role, and I know that it will remain in safe hands with Councillor Eugene Caparros and Councillor Gary Haines."
“I want to thank Councillor Davies for the valuable contribution that he has made towards Bridgend County Borough Council, and for the excellent advice and unwavering support that he has provided to his Cabinet colleagues and myself as Leader.”
