Wednesday 13 May 2026
Bridgend County Borough Council’s Youth Support Service recently received an outstanding Estyn inspection report, highlighting the difference the service is making to the lives of young people across the county borough.
The service was praised for supporting the personal development, wellbeing and future prospects of young people and in particular providing support to those who may be vulnerable and disengaged with school or education.
Inspectors also noted the high levels of targeted support for groups including LGBTQ+ young people, those with additional learning needs and young people at risk of homelessness or becoming not in education, employment or training (NEET).
The report highlighted the strong voice young people have within the service through initiatives such as the Youth Council, peer education projects and the Young Inspectors programme. These opportunities help young people develop leadership, communication and democratic skills while influencing local decision-making and service improvement.
Staff were also recognised for building positive and trusting relationships with young people and for delivering a strong trauma-informed approach. Effective partnership working and targeted outreach activity were also commended, alongside preventative education work on issues such as healthy relationships, anti-racism and community safety.
“We are extremely proud of the positive impact our Youth Support Service continues to have on young people across Bridgend County Borough. “This recognition reflects the dedication and professionalism of our staff and partners who work tirelessly to support young people, particularly those facing significant challenges in their lives. “It is especially encouraging to see the value placed on youth voice and inclusion, ensuring young people feel listened to, respected and empowered to shape services and their communities. We will continue to build on these strengths while identifying areas for improvement as necessary. Well done all.”
