With local government elections set to take place in May 2027, Bridgend County Borough Council is organising prospective candidate sessions where residents can find out more about becoming a councillor and standing for election.
Set to take place between 6pm-8pm on Tuesday 13 October and Wednesday 14 October, the free sessions have been organised to encourage more people to get involved in the democratic process and to spread awareness about the roles of elected members.
Each session will look at what the role of a councillor involves and the functions of the local authority before highlighting the process for how someone can become a candidate and stand for election.
These sessions are ideal for anyone who is considering standing as a councillor. Being an elected member is open to anyone over the age of 18 who is on the electoral register and who has have lived in, worked within or owned a property in the county borough for at least the last 12 months. If you care passionately about your local community, want to drive forward positive change and have the ability to make challenging decisions, then the prospective candidate sessions will give you a valuable insight into what it means to be a councillor, and what you need to do to become a candidate in the forthcoming election.
