Date confirmed for start of extended access within Bridgend town centre
Tuesday 07 April 2026
Extended loading and unloading hours for businesses in Bridgend town centre will be introduced along with new Blue Badge parking bays from Wednesday 15 April 2026.
Part of an 18-month experimental scheme, the changes are designed to support businesses while also improving accessibility for residents.
Under the scheme, current loading and unloading hours of 10am - 6pm will be updated to 11am - 4pm in order to better balance the needs of deliveries, businesses and pedestrians during peak periods.
At the same time, Blue Badge parking bays will be installed along Derwen Road to offer improved access for registered badge holders as part of a more inclusive and flexible approach to town centre parking.
The scheme will be carefully monitored and regularly reviewed, and adjustments will be made where necessary using feedback from businesses and other key stakeholders to ensure the changes can deliver the maximum possible benefit.
They have been introduced in line with the aims of the Bridgend Town Centre Masterplan and the results of recent public consultation over how people want to access and use Bridgend town centre.
As part of these changes, work is also going ahead on the introduction of improved bicycle access to the town centre, and we are seeking to introduce greater flexibility and support for town centre events to make it easier to host and manage a wider range of activities. Public safety will remain our primary concern in this matter while we seek to create a more vibrant and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike
