Countdown is on for AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl

The AIG Women’s Open heads to Royal Porthcawl Golf Club at the end of the month and Bridgend County Borough is gearing up to host what will be the largest ever female sporting event to take place in Wales.

The championship field includes 144 competitors from across the world, with the championship taking place from Thursday 31 July to Sunday 3 August 2025. The final practice round and the pro-am is taking place on Wednesday 30 July. 

With a significant number of spectators expected to attend the championship, a range of measures have been put in place to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible with a minimum of inconvenience.

Residents should be aware that the public footpath that runs along the top of the golf course will be closed from Pink Bay in the direction of West Road between 30 July and 4 August. However, the boardwalk that runs alongside the coast towards Rest Bay will remain open as normal - Temporary Closure Order - Footpath 20 Porthcawl and Footpath 55 Cornelly – Plan.

To assist with traffic management and reduce congestion in the vicinity of Royal Porthcawl, temporary traffic regulations and parking restrictions will also be introduced.

A 20mph speed limit will be in place for part of West Road between 27 July and 4 August, while several no waiting areas will be introduced at various nearby locations. 

For anyone attending the championship, free public parking for cars and motorbikes is available on-site and is located in a field next to the course. Please leave the M4 at J38 and follow the black and yellow event signs for public parking. 

A free spectator shuttle bus will also be running between Bridgend railway station and Royal Porthcawl. Buses will depart the station approximately every 15 minutes. Due to the large crowds, a temporary no fly zone for unmanned aircrafts such as drones will be in place over the golf course and surrounding area.

Plenty of fun activities for the whole family will also be available including a giant ball pit, sand pit, face painting, free golf lessons, lawn games and fantastic food and beverage stalls.
