Council explores partnership investment for new Porthcawl 3G sports pitch

Opportunities are being explored by Bridgend County Borough Council and partners to develop a new 3G artificial grass pitch at Porthcawl Comprehensive School, which could provide improved sports facilities for pupils, local clubs and community groups.
A report is due to be considered by the council’s Cabinet on 22 September which proposes the development of a new 3G facility which includes cross-field goals, fencing, LED floodlights and a shock pad surface.
The proposal has been developed in response to increased demand for artificial pitches across the county borough, particularly during the winter months.
The Council has been working with schools, sporting organisations and funding partners to explore opportunities to secure external investment for the project.
Following applications to the Cymru Football Foundation and Sport Wales, conditional funding of £241,473 and £150,000 respectively has been secured. If the project progresses, this external funding would mean that there is currently no requirement for a capital contribution from the Council.
If supported, the proposed facility would be available for school use during operational hours and for community use after school, at weekends and during school holidays.
Any future management arrangements would include provision for the ongoing maintenance of the facility and a ringfenced fund to support future resurfacing.
The proposal also follows the recent opening of a pitch at Bryntirion Comprehensive School.
