Cabinet to consider changes to supported living service

Friday 17 July 2026

The Cabinet of Bridgend County Borough Council will meet on Tuesday 21 July to discuss plans for changing how it provides supported living services for people with physical or learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.

Designed to help people to live independently within their own homes, the supported living service offers tailored care and support that helps people deal with day-to-day living, housing management and community integration.

The service is delivered across seven geographic areas – Pencoed, Maesteg, Tondu / Aberkenfig, Bridgend West, Bridgend East, Pyle and Kenfig Hill, and Porthcawl - and currently supports a total of 89 people.

Under new proposals, the council wants to continue to use a locality-based approach while broadening the service to enable support to be based upon needs rather than diagnosis.

With the current contract coming to an end, the authority is proposing to retender to providers who will be able to deliver person-centred support, promote independence and community integration, and to offer round-the-clock support.

As a pre-market engagement exercise has already attracted strong interest from 17 potential providers, Cabinet will be asked to consider the proposals, agree to recommission the General Supported Living Service, and invite tenders for the work on a four-year basis.
