Bridgend Town Council is inviting residents to join its annual Armed Forces’ celebratory event which honours the military community in the county borough.
The free event will take place in Bridgend town centre on Armed Forces Day, Saturday 28 June, and will feature a parade of Veterans, Reservists and Cadets, led by Pipers from the Queen’s Gurkha Signals.
The parade will leave Caroline Street at 10.50am and the salute will be taken at the War Memorial by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan.
Military vehicles, activities including a climbing wall and mobile cave and stalls representing Armed Forces organisations and charities will also take part in the event, with entertainment from Bridgend and Cowbridge Rock Choir, Air Cadets Drum Corps, Sea Cadets Semaphore Display, Ukulele Band, The Dance Centre Academy, The 2 Eds, Prestige Acrobatics and Dance.
Local Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and Air Training Corps Cadets will also be participating in the Mayor’s Award for Best Cadet Competition, which will take place on Wyndham Street at 11.30am. Two cadets from each service will be invited back for the second round at 2pm, before the cup is presented on the main stage at 2.45pm by the Mayor of Bridgend Town Councillor Ian Spiller.
The Armed Forces flag will also be flying outside the Civic Offices in recognition of Armed Forces Day, on Saturday 28 June.

“I am delighted to support this fantastic event, which shows our gratitude to the existing servicemen and women and their families, reservists and veterans across Bridgend County Borough for their commitment and courage, and for the sacrifices that they have made whilst fighting to serve and protect our country. “I encourage all residents to join me in showing our support in what will be a great day for all the family. “This year also marks the 12th anniversary of the signing of the council’s Armed Forces Covenant, which pledges to help members of the armed forces community have the same access to government and commercial services and products as any other citizen. “By working with the armed forces community and other local organisations, we can continue to provide essential support with education, health and wellbeing, housing, financial assistance, careers and discounted services.”
