Active travel route from Ynysawdre is underway

With help from Welsh Government funding for active travel routes across Wales, Bridgend County Borough Council will soon begin work on a new active travel route from Ynysawdre (seen in red on the map).  This route will link two points on the existing active travel network, as well as provide the start of a proposed future route, continuing to the east of the River Ogmore.

Lasting for approximately 18 weeks, the work is set to start on Monday 16 October.   The 430m long route is located in Ynysawdre, near Bridgend, and runs through an area of previously overgrown and wooded land, bounding the north side of Brynmenyn Primary School and the east side of Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen.

We are excited to continue to expand our active travel routes across the county borough, allowing residents to have greater flexibility in their choice of travel. The provision of active travel routes ensures that people can travel sustainably and safely – either by cycling or walking – away from traffic.

Accessibility of these routes can only have a positive impact on our net zero target, any financial challenges faced by residents, as well as on the mental and physical wellbeing of those living within the area.

Although some disruption during these works may be unavoidable, we will try our very best to minimise any potential inconvenience. We look forward to the host of benefits that this new route will offer, including the opportunity for the future development of the active travel route network.

Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment, Councillor John Spanswick
