A Level results rise in Bridgend County Borough as class of 2025 celebrate their achievements
Friday 15 August 2025
Schools throughout Bridgend County Borough are celebrating the efforts of learners and staff with A Level results being up on all key indicators compared to 2024.
There have been lots of individual achievements with many students achieving a place at their first-choice university, while others will take different routes such as entering the world of work, beginning an apprenticeship, or going to college to continue studying.
One of the many success stories is that of Maesteg School pupil Thomas Joyner, who achieved his school’s best ever individual A Level results by securing 5 A* grades in subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Music, Photography and the Welsh Baccalaureate. He will now go on to study medicine at Imperial College, London.
“We are absolutely delighted with the outcomes our students have achieved this year. These results are a testament to their hard work, determination, and the unwavering support of our staff and families. Every student should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished. “This year’s results highlight the school’s commitment to academic excellence and inclusive education. A significant number of students achieved A* and A grades, with many exceeding their personal targets and progressing to competitive courses in medicine, engineering, the arts and science.”
“Brynteg continues to champion a holistic approach to education, celebrating not only academic achievement but also personal growth, leadership, and creativity. "Many of our pupils are now progressing to top universities, apprenticeships, and exciting career pathways, equipped with the confidence and skills to thrive. We are incredibly proud."
“I’m thrilled to see A Level results improve in Bridgend County Borough and I’d like to highlight the hard work of all pupils and staff. “I wish all of our learners the very best for the future and it’s fantastic to hear about their wide-ranging plans. If you’re still working out what comes next, there are people who can help. Careers Wales, your school or college are great places to start."
Any pupils who need extra support or didn’t get the results they were hoping for are advised to:
- Talk to your school who can offer advice and support on what options are available to you.
- Visit the Careers Wales website where there are plenty of resources available to help.
- Look at some of the current job vacancies on the Bridgend County Borough Council website.
- Consider an apprenticeship where you can work alongside industry professionals, earn a wage, and develop your skills – visit the Welsh Government website for more information.
