Form for marriage venue applications

Send forms to:

Licensing Section
Telephone: 01656 643643
Address: Bridgend County Borough Council, Civic Offices, Angel Street, Bridgend, CF31 4WB.

Licences are needed for civil marriages’ solemnisation and civil partnerships’ formation, as well as other non-statutory ceremonies when they are introduced.

To apply for permission to hold civil or wedding ceremonies, you must be the premises’ proprietor or a trustee.

To make application you must submit:

  • a completed application form
  • a premises plan, which clearly identifies the room or rooms for proceedings
  • the relevant fee

As soon as possible, we will make the application and plan available to the public for inspection at all reasonable hours during the working day. This shall continue until the application has been finally determined or withdrawn.

We will consider any notice of objection arising from the public consultation.

We will write to the applicant and anyone who has given notice of objection to our decision and any conditions imposed on the licence.

The Proper Officer Representative or their representative will inspect the premises for suitability.

If the licence is granted, it will be valid for three years.

It is in the public interest that authorities process applications before granting them. If you have not heard from the relevant authority within a reasonable period, please contact it. You can do this online if you applied through the UK Welcomes Service, or our contact details are below.

To appeal a failed application, contact us in the first instance using the contact details below.

You have the right to seek a review of the local authority's refusal to grant your application.

Deliver your request for review to the local authority’s Proper Officer, with any requested fee.
