Online Learning Opportunities

Adult Community Learning Bridgend are offering online courses to the public. The courses will be run via Zoom (support and training is available if you are not confident using this).

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for accessing an Adult Community Learning course. Bridgend Adult Community Learning will not restrict access on the grounds of prior academic attainment, age, employment, geographic location or any other grounds.

Please note that accreditation is a requirement of the courses and by enrolling on a course learners are agreeing to complete the paperwork involved.

5 week course. 

By attending this course you will gain an awareness of the skills required for building a basic web site. For example, learners will start with the basics such as how to plan content and navigation required for a web site.

The course with help learners to familiarize themselves with the understanding of how to use web based software to learn the computing skills required to collect information, such as pictures and artefacts.   By the end of the course, you will be able to list software and activities required to be able to build a basic web site of your own.

This course will prepare you for progression to the Basic Web Design Course.

This course will be delivered online. Free IT support is available prior to the course start for those who require help in accessing online learning.

Thursday 10am – 12 noon

Cost: £10 full-fee payers, £5 for concessions. 

This 5 week course is for beginners who are interested in learning to draw from life. We will explore various techniques to give you the skills you need to be able to draw observationally, from sketching to shading with colour!

You will need: 1-4 still life objects (no crazy patterns!), pencils (preferably 4H to 6B), black pens (biro or fine-liner), sketchbook or paper (any size), charcoal, and coloured pencils, crayons or pastels. 

This course will be delivered online.  Free IT support is available prior to the course start for those who require help in accessing online learning.

Free online Learndirect courses

Learndirect offers great flexibility. These free online courses let you study at your own pace, as they’re learner led and split into bitesize chunks.

Delivering good customer service is a course full of everything you need to know to get a good basic understanding of customer service. It covers the different types of customers, the importance of good communication skills, and dealing with problems and complaints.

This introduction to COSHH course explains what a hazardous substance is and where they can be found in the workplace. You’ll find out what kinds of health risks are associated with them and we’ll also cover the benefits of following COSHH guidelines.

Manual handling occurs in almost all working environments. Incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work. It’s really important that you understand the common hazards associated with manual handling and learn how to minimise the risk of injury.

The manual handling course will provide you with flexible and easy to use risk assessment tools. You will also be advised on correct lifting techniques. You can have the confidence to take responsibility for the safety of yourself and others whilst at work.

This course teaches you everything you need to know to gain a Functional Skills qualification in maths widely recognised as an alternative to traditional GCSEs. Functional skills maths teaches you the practical skills needed to use maths at home, work and in everyday situations.

This ranges from being able to work out the value of 20% off that coat you want in the sale to understanding stats for business. Because of this, you’ll be able to put your new-found knowledge gained through Maths Level 2 Standard to work straight away, in the real world.

This online maths course also suits people wanting to refresh their maths knowledge to feel more confident when facing numbers at work or home.

This course teaches you everything you need to know to gain a Functional Skills qualification in English widely recognised as an alternative to traditional GCSEs. Functional Skills English teaches you the practical skills needed to use the English language at home, work and in everyday situations.

 

This ranges from being able to appropriately format and write a formal letter to effectively communicating with those around you. Because of this, you’ll be able to put your new-found skills gained through ‘English Level 2: Standard’ to work straight away in the real world.
