Online Learning Opportunities

Adult Community Learning Bridgend are offering online courses to the public. The courses will be run online.

Free IT support is available prior to the course start for those who require help in accessing online learning. Some sessions may be held in a classroom if Covid-19 restrictions change.

To register for a course contact adultlearning@bridgend.gov.uk for further information and an enrolment form. When enrolling, please state clearly in your email the course, day and time that you are interested in.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for accessing an Adult Community Learning course. Bridgend Adult Community Learning will not restrict access on the grounds of prior academic attainment, age, employment, geographic location or any other grounds.

Please note that accreditation is a requirement of the courses and by enrolling on a course learners are agreeing to complete the paperwork involved.

Free online Learndirect courses

Learndirect offers great flexibility. These free online courses let you study at your own pace, as they’re learner led and split into bitesize chunks.

This e-learning course has been designed to help you best support people with emotional disorders, such as depression and anxiety, and how to work with people experiencing these emotional disorders.

This course develops an understanding of autism, communication tools, an introduction to behavioural support and sensory differences. The course is aimed at individuals who are involved with clients who have autism. Through the course they will gain a better understanding of what autism is and the effect it has on an individual's they support.

The likelihood of working with someone with autism has increased over the past year, with autism becoming more common. This course will examine what autism is, looking at how it is a spectrum condition and what this actually means, as well as considering a brief history of autism and how our understanding of the condition has developed.

The course explores the genetic, environmental and physiological causes of autism, as well as identifying possible signs and symptoms of autism, including the Triad of Impairments, and the diagnostic process involved. It also considers how professionals can effective supporting people with autism and help improve the outcomes for people on the autistic spectrum, and outlines the legislative framework which plays a factor in the lives of some people with autism.

In any job, you’ll need to communicate with others. That’s why excellent communication is desirable to employers and an essential skill. How you communicate and present yourself could make the difference between career success or failure.

Whether you’re face to face with customers at work or looking to bag your first job, good communication skills are needed to impress. If yours are a little rusty, don’t panic. Communication Skills will take you from communication novice to expert in no time.

The care certificate is the industry agreed set of standards setting out the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for Health and Social Care. It is composed of 15 standards that are designed to ensure those in the industry have the knowledge to be able to offer high quality care.

This course covers all the knowledge elements of the overall care certificate. It is a valuable and engaging resource for those studying for the formal care certificate or looking to see if a career in care is for you.

Getting feedback from your customers is vital, but it only has full value if you act on it. This can help you to improve your service, which will be of benefit to both you and your organisation.

This course will show you how to review your procedures and how to implement any required changes. Keeping in mind the balance between company, customers and service partners. It will also teach you how to monitor and report on these changes.

This accredited online session has been created by expert trainers to enable busy managers to improve their effectiveness. It is part of the wider CMI-endorsed "Management Skills Award" (see below) and can also be used as a "stand alone" module for training for this specific topic. The course uses engaging, interactive e-learning which is delivered at at a brisk pace; ensuring that the full session can be completed in 20 to 25 minutes.

This eLearning only provides awareness education. Face-to-face training would be needed in addition in order to complete the all-round skills and knowledge to be able to carry this forward practically in your organisation.

Manual handling occurs in almost all working environments. Incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work. It’s really important that you understand the common hazards associated with manual handling and learn how to minimise the risk of injury.

This course teaches you everything you need to know to gain a Functional Skills qualification in maths widely recognised as an alternative to traditional GCSEs. Functional skills maths teaches you the practical skills needed to use maths at home, work and in everyday situations.

This ranges from being able to work out the value of 20% off that coat you want in the sale to understanding stats for business. Because of this, you’ll be able to put your new-found knowledge gained through Maths Level 2 Standard to work straight away, in the real world.

This online maths course also suits people wanting to refresh their maths knowledge to feel more confident when facing numbers at work or home.

This course teaches you everything you need to know to gain a Functional Skills qualification in English widely recognised as an alternative to traditional GCSEs. Functional Skills English teaches you the practical skills needed to use the English language at home, work and in everyday situations.

 

This ranges from being able to appropriately format and write a formal letter to effectively communicating with those around you. Because of this, you’ll be able to put your new-found skills gained through ‘English Level 2: Standard’ to work straight away in the real world.
