Grass cutting policy 2018
Where we cut grass
We are responsible for cutting the grass of:
- public open spaces
- highway verges
- central reservations
- parks and playing fields
We do not cut grass that is:
- on properties or estates owned by bodies other than the council, for example housing associations
- privately owned
How often we cut grass
We start cutting grass in April and continue until October.
Urban grass is in public open spaces and highway verges. It is cut seven times a season. Between March and September, we start cutting urban grass at the end of each month.
Rural grass is grass located on the sides of main roads and central reservations. It is cut four times a year. In 2018, cutting occurs as follows:
- first cut starts 16 April 2018
- second cut starts 29 May 2018
- third cut starts 9 July 2018
- fourth cut starts 3 September 2018
Rural lanes are cut twice a year. The first cut starts in May and the second takes place at the end of August.
Parks and playing fields
Parks and playing fields are generally cut every 10 working days throughout the season.
All grass cutting schedules may change due to weather and ground conditions.
