Direct payments

If you need help to meet your care needs, we may be able to give you money to spend the money on getting the support you need, rather than accessing a council service. This is known as a direct payment.

You can use your direct payment to arrange support that is right for you and your lifestyle.

Direct payments give you more control over the support you need. You can make important choices about your care and have far greater flexibility over your support than care arranged by us.

People who can apply for a direct payment

Direct payments can be offered to people who are eligible to receive social care services.

To be eligible, we need to know that your needs can be met in this way and that you are able to manage the direct payments, either alone or with available support.

How to get a direct payment

To receive a direct payment you need an assessment of your care needs. If you have already had an assessment, and are receiving a service, you can apply to switch to direct payments instead.
