Information for parents
Welsh Government has announced that the “Childcare Offer for Wales” has been suspended from 1st April 2020. This is initially for the summer 2020 term, but will be reviewed. This website will be updated as and when we receive further guidance from Welsh Government. Key workers can apply for childcare by emailing EDFSCovid19@bridgend.gov.uk.
The childcare offer provides 30 hours a week of funded childcare and early education for up to 48 weeks of the year. It can be accessed by eligible working parents of three to four-year-olds. The offer is available from the term after a child’s third birthday until the September following their fourth birthday. Parents are no longer eligible for the offer during term time when their child is offered a full-time school place. However, they can continue to access nine weeks of childcare during holidays.
Please note that we are one of the only Welsh local authorities offering full-time Foundation Phase Nursery (FPN) for three-year-olds. When a child is eligible as noted above, the Childcare Offer cannot be used at a private nursery instead of a full-time school FPN. This still applies if you decide against applying for a school place or to turn down a school place.
The offer is a combination of the existing Foundation Phase Nursery (FPN) provision for three and four-year-olds, and additional funded childcare which includes childminders. The offer extends to after school hours, weekends and school holidays.
To qualify, you must:
- have a child that is three or four years old
- earn on average a weekly minimum equivalent to, or more than, 16 hours at national minimum wage (NMW) or national living wage (NLW)
- earn less than £100,000 per year
If you are in a single-parent family you need to be working and if you are in a two-parent family you both need to be working.
If you are self-employed or on a zero hours contract you need to be able to prove this by providing the relevant documents. The offer is available during maternity leave and to those on long term sickness.
Important application dates
If you apply too early, your application will be automatically rejected. Thus, please apply once the relevant application open date has begun.
