Bridgend County Borough Council is seeking to appoint an Independent Member (Co-optee) to serve on its Standards Committee. The appointment will be for a term of 6 years and may be renewed for a further term of 4 years.
The Standards Committee promotes and maintains high standards of conduct and probity for its local councillors. There are currently seven members on the Committee made up of Independent Memers and Councillors.
Applications are invited from well-respected persons of standing who have strong personal integrity and respect for others, the ability to work as part of a team and to act with discretion as well as a strong belief in the importance of pursuing and protecting ethical values in public life.
There are four Standards Committee meetings a year and in addition meetings are held where necessary to determine the outcome of a complaint against a Councillor.
These hearings take place during the day and normally only last for one day. Payments to Independent Members (Co-optees) are set by the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales.
The current rate payable is £238 for 4 hours and over or £199 for less than 4 hours. Training for Independent Members is provided.
