Free town centre car parking to continue
Posted on: Wednesday 26 August 2020
Bridgend County Borough Council has confirmed that council-maintained town centre car parks will be free to use for another month, now continuing throughout September.
In Bridgend town centre, it is available at the Rhiw and Brackla Street multi storeys as well as the open air car park behind Wilkinsons.
In Porthcawl, it is available at the Hillsboro and John Street car parks.
Furthermore, from October 1 until March 31, the first three hours will then be free in the Rhiw car park in Bridgend. And in John Street car park, Porthcawl, parking will be free between midday and 3pm from October 1 until March 31.
We hope shoppers make the most of the extension of the current free town centre parking for another month and be encouraged to return when the free three hours initiative starts in the Rhiw and Porthcawl’s John Street car park from October to the end of March.
Local businesses need all the help they can get in to meet the challenges at this time, I’m pleased we can continue the free parking concession as part of our overall support for them.Cabinet member for communities Richard Young
Beth Daniel, vice chair of Bridgend Traders Forum, said: “On behalf of Bridgend Traders Forum, we are delighted to hear that the free parking offer from BCBC has been extended and would like to thank BCBC for their support with this offer, alongside the tremendous support and good wishes we have received from all our customers who have been amazing in this difficult trading time.
“Customers really seem to have taken the ‘shop local’ message to heart and their backing has been really heartwarming. The free parking offer will definitely encourage shoppers to keep on showing that support to the businesses in the town centre and indoor market.”
