Councils unite to show support at Pride Cymru 2022

Bridgend County Borough Council joined neighbouring local authorities in South Wales to show support for the LGBT+ community and help promote equality and diversity.

The authority took part in the Pride Cymru event, as part of the ‘Proud Councils’ network, which is designed to enable councils throughout the region to work together while promoting services and offering their support.

Representatives of Bridgend County Borough Council travelled to Cardiff for the event alongside colleagues from Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Powys, Newport, Swansea, Caerphilly, Torfaen, and Blaenau Gwent.

Staff, councillors, and associated community groups joined hundreds of people who marched through the streets of Cardiff together to demonstrate each council's commitment and support for the LGBT+ community in Wales.

As well as holding Pride banners and flags, they were also present at the Proud Council’s stall to encourage visitors to discuss how councils can improve issues such as service delivery, access and inclusion and preventing discrimination against residents and employees.

We are really pleased to see this event make a welcome return to Cardiff this year. Being part of the Proud Councils network enables local authorities across the region to come together and demonstrate their commitment towards equality and diversity.

As a local authority, we provide services for all people, irrespective of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability or religious belief, and it was fantastic to return to the Pride Cymru festival to show our support and encourage people to respect and appreciate the diversity which exists within our own communities.
