Businesses encourage people to shop safe – shop local!

With shops reopening across Bridgend County Borough, residents can look out for window stickers and certificates indicating that businesses have completed free online training on how to keep customers safe from exposure to the coronavirus.

Many businesses have completed the start-back training and it is anticipated that over 300 will have been trained over the coming weeks. The online training covers issues such as how to maintain social distancing within premises, how to change the layout of a shop, how to maintain hand hygiene procedures, how to encourage customers to observe all health and safety requirements and more.

Participating businesses have also received free ‘sneeze-guard’ screens, which can be used around tills and on counters to further limit potential exposure.

Many shops are now encouraging customers to visit and are advertising that they are open for business once more by posting photographs of their certificates, window stickers and sneeze-guards across social media along with the slogan #ShopLocal, #ShopSafe.

The start back-training and free ‘sneeze-guards’ are just a couple of ways in which we are doing all we can to help local businesses meet the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

I hope that people will look out for the window stickers and certificates, and feel reassured that they can shop safely in the knowledge that the business has completed the training and is well armed to put it into practice in their premises.

Council Leader Huw David

To date 20 training courses have taken place with some places still left on courses running up to 14 July.

As part of the support, a new online resource has also been uploaded to the council’s website.
