Freedom of the Borough

The Freedom of the Borough is the most prestigious award we can give. It is symbolic of our regard for the person or body awarded.

We granted the Freedom of the Borough to the Royal Welsh on 30 August 2008, and to the Welsh Guards on 11 May 2011. This gives both regiments the right to parade through the town centre with bayonets fixed and flags flying.

The Royal Welsh paraded through Bridgend during the bestowing of the Freedom of the Borough.
2010 to 2011’s mayor, Councillor Teesdale, is seen here inspecting the Welsh Guards during the bestowing of the Freedom of the Borough.
