Taxi licences

The process of getting a driver licence

Applications for new or renewed taxi driver licences must be made in person. The application pack or renewal letter will explain which documents you need to bring with you. We will take copies of original documents and return them to you on the day.

We recommend making renewal applications at least six to eight weeks before the expiry date.

For an appointment to submit your application or help, please call 01656 643643.

Apply for a taxi driver licence

There are two parts to getting a taxi driver licence:

  1. Submit your forms in person.
  2. Pass a knowledge test.

First, download the application form from the first part of the expandable box below and complete it. Also, use the guidance documents’ advice. To submit your forms, you will need to make an appointment to do so in person via the contact details on this page. You will also need to download the medical certificate and take it to your GP to complete. You are responsible for paying any fees associated with the medical certificate.

When you submit your forms, you will be given the next available date for the knowledge test. You will receive advice on the test, and, moreover, you should study the documents in the second part of the expandable box below.

You will get feedback with your result, and, if needed, learn how to re-sit.
