Country Scenes

Distance : Approximately 49kms, 31 miles

This tour enables you to explore some of the delightful Country Parks within the Borough of Bridgend and just beyond. Few areas can offer a choice of four country parks - all within a few miles but each offering a completely different experience to visitors. Margam Park, Bedford Park, Bryngarw Country Park and Tondu - all rich in natural beauty and offering a range of amenities to delight the most discerning visitor.

From Porthcawl

Take the A4106/A48/A473 to Bridgend

Leave town on the A4061 signposted M4

Cross the motorway

Stay on the A4061 for Bryncethin

Turn left at the traffic lights signposted Country Park

Stay on the A4065 for Brynmenyn.

After the level crossing in Brynmenyn (by the Fox and Hounds) turn right for Bryngarw Country Park.

Retrace your steps through Brynmenyn

On your way back to Bryncethin, turn left onto A4064 for Llangeinor.

Turn right along A4093, which climbs over the mountain to A4061.

Follow A4061 north through Ogmore Valley.

After Nantymoel, the road climbs to the summit of Bwlch-y-Clawdd where you can get spectacular views across thr Rhondda Valley.

Turn left at the summit along the A4107 descending into the forested Afan Valley.

Stay on the A4107

About 3 ½ miles after Cymmer you will reach the entrance of Afan Argoed Country Park for a chance to visit.

Afterwards, follow the A4107 down the valley joining the M4 at Junction 40

Travel eastbound toward Cardiff

Leave the M4 at Junction 38, taking the A48 toward Pyle.

The entrance to Margam Park appears shortly on the left.

After visiting the park, turn back onto the A48

Follow the signs along the B4283/A4229 back to Porthcawl.
