Some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Southern Wales can be found in the County Borough of Bridgend. From quiet, unspoilt bays to rolling dunes and plunging cliffs you will find an ever-changing landscape as you drive our coastal tour.
Your journey begins in the popular seaside town of Porthcawl.
Drive along the Esplanade where only minutes away, and in complete contrast to this lively seaside resort, are the peaceful and beautiful Rest Bay and grassy Lock's Common.
From here you will drive inland past local housing to the quaint village of Nottage before heading out to the village of Kenfig and the Kenfig Pool and Dunes Nature Reserve passing the Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club on your way.
At the village of Kenfig, continue past the historic Prince of Wales Inn
Follow the signs for Pyle until you reach the B4283
Turn left (signposted A48 for Port Talbot).
Turn right at the T-junction by the garage onto the A48 for Pyle.
From here you could continue on to Margam Park or stay on the A48 travelling east for a distance of about 4 miles
Turn right onto the minor road for Merthyr Mawr.
After about ¾ mile, turn right again at the staggered crossroads for Merthyr Mawr and on through the village to Candleston.
Here, you can explore the fascinating dune system of Merthyr Mawr Warren before returning
At the crossroads, turn right onto the minor road which brings you to the B4265 leading to Ewenny
Visit Ewenny Craft Centre, one of the oldest potteries in Wales.
Turn right onto the B4524 for Ogmore-by-sea
Pay a visit to Ogmore Castle on your right on the way.
The road runs along the scenic river estuary until you reach the headland at Southerndown.
Head back towards St Bride's Major and follow the B4265 signed for Bridgend.
At the A48 roundabout, turn left
Within a few miles take the A4106 back to Porthcawl.
