Meetings of the Standards Committee are ad-hoc and are future meetings are not arranged until required.

 

 

 

What is the Role of the Standards Committee?

   

 

Councillors have to agree to follow a Code of Conduct to ensure high standards in the way they undertake their duties. The Standards Committee trains and advises them on the Code of Conduct. There is also a Town and Community Councils Standards Sub-Committee which performs a similar role for Town and Community Councillors.

 

 

 

The Standards Committee has the following roles and functions:-

 

To promote and maintain high standards of conduct by Councillors, co-opted members and Church and Parent Governor representatives;

 

To assist Councillors, co-opted members and Church and Parent Governor representatives to observe the Code of Conduct for Members and Co-opted Members;

 

To advise the Council on the content of and any revisions it may from time to time consider should be made to the Code of Conduct for Members and Co-opted Members, the Council Procedure Rules, the Cabinet Procedure Rules and any protocol governing member/officer relationships;

 

To monitor the operation of the Code of Conduct for Members and Co-opted Members and to report to the Council on any matters of concern;

 

To advise the Council on the effective implementation of the Code of Conduct for Members and Co-opted Members, including appropriate training measures for Councillors, co-opted members and Church and Parent Governor representatives
