Celebrate the Gwanwyn Festival at the Grand Pavilion | |
The Grand Pavilion, in association with Age Cymru, Literature Wales, and Porthcawl U3A, will be hosting the Creative Gwanwyn Market on Friday 20 May, 1-4pm. Part of the Welsh annual Gwanwyn Festival, the market is one of many events taking place across Wales during May which celebrate creativity in older age. Guy O’Donnell, Arts Development Manager, said: “This Wales-wide arts festival for the over 50s is now in its fifth year. The market event will be a great opportunity for people to try their hand at a wide range of activities. From painting, dancing and music to storytelling, workshops, creative writing and more, there is something for everyone.” The creative market will take place in the main auditorium of The Grand Pavilion and invites people of all ages – with a particular focus on those aged 50 and above – to get involved in the artistic and cultural life of the community through a number of fun events. Working with the local University of the Third Age (U3A) group, which has almost 600 members, local creative and artistic groups, organisations and individuals will display, exhibit and perform their work throughout the afternoon. Also, Porthcawl based poet and writer, Robert Minhinnick, will be offering free literary workshops at 1.30-3.30pm. Peter Finch, Chief Executive of Literature Wales said: “The festival celebrates renewal, growth and creativity in older age; it offers greater opportunities for older people. The Gwanwyn market is the perfect opportunity to take up a new creative activity or to go back and re-visit the creativity that used to be there in more youthful times. I recommend that people come along and be inspired - get involved in the arts.” The event is free of charge.
