Young bands are battling their way through the heats for a place in The Gathering’s Battle of the Bands grand final on Friday 15 April 2011 at Bridgend Recreation Centre are 6.30pm.
Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts Development Officer, Andre Van Wyk said: “For the grand final we have decided to do away with the first, second and third prizes and are giving real power to the public to vote and determine what band will be the people’s choice with no judges in the decision process.
“The rest of the finalists will be awarded various prizes related to their strength of performance decided by a panel of judges from the music industry. The focus for this year is very much on the bands having to work hard to obtain prizes rather than simply a judge’s opinion of whether a band is good or not.”

The Gathering is a music industry development scheme for those living in Bridgend County Borough and is organised by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts and Community Service and Bridgend College, supported by the council’s Youth Service and Black River Arts and sponsored by Rockschool – Europe’s leading rock and pop music exam board who believe that anyone can great a recognised qualification by playing music they love.
