South Wales Fire Service were recently called to act as special dragon fire fighters during Bridgend’s first outdoor, live action storytelling spectacular based on E Nesbit’s ‘Book of Beasts.’
Youngsters, parents and guardians enjoyed the performance and story by the Mobile Library at Bridgend Recreation Centre car park, which was told by Bridgend based author and storyteller Mike Church.
The spectacular began with juggling, lights, music, hot chocolate and free goodies and the children had lots of fun taking part in the storytelling before smoke began to pour out of the mobile library and the dragon stated to edge out of the door behind Mike Church. The fire service responded with dynamic speed, turning up in full dragon fire-fighting gear in a fire engine to put out the dragon’s fire. All cheered as the fire fighters successfully chased the dragon back into the ‘Book of Beasts’!
Parent Rhod Williams said: “I had the pleasure of attending your first outdoor storytelling event. The narrator Mike held my children’s attention throughout and brought magic to the tale.”
The event was organised by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Library and Information Service in partnership with The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Libraries offer lots to and see for all ages throughout the year, pick up an events brochure at your local branch or visit www.bridgend.gov.uk/libraries to find out more.
