The Arts Development Team is committed to supporting the development of new music initiatives for young people throughout Bridgend County Borough.
Through working closely with local promoters, local and national music organisations as well as being a partner in the South Wales New Music Forum, we aim to engage young people through popular music and foster the creation of original material.
We are constantly forging links within both the community and industry level in order to ensure a consistent and sustainable approach involving both short term projects like rock school sessions, right through to growing annual schemes such as The Gathering.
Our main partners in delivering this work are Bridgend College Performing Arts Department, Community Music Wales, the Welsh Music Foundation and the South Wales New Music Forum.

New youth music industry scheme opportunities for solo and band musicians
The Gathering is not just an annual battle of the band anymore! It has been reborn as a two phased youth music industry development scheme for Bridgend County Borough offering fantastic opportunities to young solo or band musicians aged 14 – 25.
Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts and Community Development and Bridgend College, young musicians will be able to take part in local gigs across the county borough, followed by music industry related training opportunities.
Fans of The Gathering’s Battle of the Bands competition will not be disappointed, as the South Wales wide prestigious competition will still form part of the programme that promises to be more comprehensive, with long term benefits for all involved.
For further information, and to be registered as a band or solo musician on The Gathering database, please call Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts Development Officer on 0777 5910 898 or email@ arts@bridgend.gov.uk.
