How to find us

Welsh legend

Cymraeg/Welsh

We felt honoured that Welsh rugby legend J.J. Williams came to our school to support us with the web site. We felt privileged that he gave up his time on a project that he felt was important and he inspired us to continue. J.J. Williams also wants to promote Bridgend County Borough as a good place to grow up in and he provided us with information on his career.

J J Williams

I have more or less lived in Bridgend County for most of my life. I was fortunate enough to grow up in an ideal environment in the Maesteg area. It provided me with all the facilities that a young man would wish for – plenty of sporting opportunities, good schooling, great social life and an abundance of friendly faces.

This background enabled me to go on and achieve my ambitions – which in my case was sport. I started my rugby career at Nantyffyllon RFC and then played for Bridgend before moving to Llanelli RFC – where I won my international honours. I became a prominent member of the great Welsh rugby team, of the 70’s and then went on to play a major part in the great British Lions victory of that era. I travelled the world playing rugby at the highest level and was fortunate enough to meet many, many famous people from all over the world - who have become close friends ever since.

My sporting success and my personal drive enabled me to also become a successful business man and I have now traded for almost 30 years – and doing all this from the Bridgend area where my business is based.

I have also enjoyed watching the success of my three children who were all schooled locally. They have each become successful in their own rights. Kathryn, James and Rhys are all international athletes of some repute, with Rhys becoming one of Britain’s best prospects of the athletics for 2012 Olympic Games.

Therefore we are all proud to have represented the Bridgend County in either sport or business, and we are all very proud of our backgrounds and of our home town.
