Environmental Enforcement
Graffiti, fly-tipping, dog fouling, litter and excess trade waste make our streets look dirty. This sort of anti-social behaviour affects us all, but did you know that it's a crime?
We can, and do, prosecute residents and businesses who commit environmental crimes. We have 3 dedicated enforcement officers and 6 other officers who have enforcement powers, who are working hard to tackle these problems. They are on the streets every day to make sure that enviro-crime gets cleaned up quickly, and that we penalise the people responsible. For example, we issue £100 fixed penalty notices to anyone caught littering or leaving dog mess in public and if the penalty is not paid we take the person to court, where a fine of up to £2500 can be issued.
We also have powers to remove abandoned cars from our streets.
Our approach to the problem is provided in the Environmental Enforcement Statement which gives the council’s enforcement objectives.
Our enforcement action follows clear guidance to officers, which is laid down in the Council's Environmental Enforcement Protocol.
You can find out more about how we're tackling enviro-crime in this section and help us make Bridgend County Borough cleaner and greener by reporting any problems you see on the streets.
